Coworking spaces, cozy coffeeshops and libraries are usually in high demand among the students when a place to study is needed. During the educational process, some people prefer to browse the Internet for searching new information, and the other ones appeal to materials available in libraries. Regardless of your preferences, HSE provides students with a great diversity of workplaces, particularly with libraries. 

In this article, you can find helpful information about the libraries of Higher School of Economics situated close to the Moscow city center. You will know where each of them is located, what types of literature includes and some notes about the interior and unique features.

Central Library, Pokrovskiy boulevard, 11, section N

The Central Library of HSE is a new high-tech designed 3000 m2 open-space with a multiple technology equipment. The size of a library is impressive: it consists of four floors, and three of them form the quiet zone where no talking is allowed. That is why students can discuss their group projects on the second floor only. 

In addition, the charging cases with locks are located on each level. They will not only charge your phone, but also help not to distract yourself with social networks and mobile apps during your studies. 

Working hours of the reading rooms: 

2d Floor: 24/7

3d, 4th, 5th Floors: 

  • Monday-Friday: 10:00-21:00 

  • Saturday: 10:00-18:00

Literature: human and exact sciences (Management, Politics, Demography, Sociology, Economics, Mathematics, Finance, etc.)

Workplace: poufs, communal and individual tables, couches, chairs, charging cases

ICEF Library Pokrovskiy boulevard, 11, section S, 106

The library of ICEF faculty provides an access to the archive of the diploma works, which were successfully defended by the students of that faculty since 2001 year. Themes are connected to the Banking, Economics, Finance, and Management.

Working hours of the reading room: 

  • Monday-Friday: 9:30-20:00 
  • Saturday: 9:30-18:00

Literature: student’s graduation projects of last years

Workplace: tables without partitions, chairs 

Myasnitskaya Library, Krivikolennyi side street, 3a

The peculiarity of this library is a Soviet style of the interior, which includes the wooden tables, deep green wools, carpets, green light of the fixtures. The atmosphere is highly official and authentic but the equipment is a bit out-of-date.

Monday-Saturday: 10:00-23:00 

Literature: specialized on human sciences, sociology, fiction

Workplace: tables with partitions, chairs

Shabolovka, Shabolovka street, 28/11, housing 2

The space of this library is divided into two floors. The first one is loaded with bookshelves and the second one aims to provide a quiet working space for students. The silence is guarded by staff members, so it is prohibited to discuss group projects here. Only individual quiet work is allowed. Also you can leave your personal things like clothes and bags at the entrance, where the coat hangers are located.

Monday-Saturday: 10:00-23:00 

Literature: specialized on business and management, also there’re literature on natural sciences, Ethics and Esthetics, Ethnography, Museum Sciences, Documentation

Staraya Basmannaya Library, Staraya Basmannaya street, 21/4, A and B

There are two libraries functioning in Basmannaya housing. The first is located in A sector and the second one in B sector (Russian letter В, not Б).

The library in A sector is older and provided with 48 seats, most of which are separately standing tables equipped with chargers. In addition, there are several places with computers that are free to use.

Monday-Saturday: 10:00-23:00 

Literature: specialized on Culture, Arts, Philosophy, Logics

Workplace: separated tables with chargers, chairs, couches

The library in B sector has a bright modern design. Most seats are comfy large chairs with high backrests that offer some private space in public. Moreover, there is a coworking room that students can use if they book it in advance (at least a day before) and if their group is more than five people.

Literature: specialized on foreign languages, Latin, Slavic, History, Fiction

Workplace: tables, chairs, couches, poufs
