African Students Call For African Unity at HSE Unity Fest

The annual event celebrates culture, diversity, and solidarity, but this year, the message went far beyond music and dance. The festival resonated with a powerful call for continental unity, peace, and shared prosperity, captured in an evocative poem titled “Africa’s Brighter Tomorrow.”
The performance, led by the HSE African Students Association, brought together students from across the continent; from Ghana and Nigeria to Egypt, Madagascar, and South Africa, all united under one vision: a stronger, united Africa.
A Call for the “United States of Africa”
In rhythmic verses, “Africa’s Brighter Tomorrow” imagined a future where borders dissolve and Africans live, work, and thrive together.
“When Africa unites, a dream unfolds,
United States of Africa, a name to behold.”
The poem painted vivid imagery of a continent without barriers: “Ghanaians in Egypt, South Africans in Nigeria’s hall” symbolizing free movement, cultural harmony, and a shared sense of purpose.
Vision of Prosperity and Peace
Beyond unity, the poem also envisioned economic strength and social transformation across Africa.
“Riches abound: gold, diamonds, oil, and more,
Tall buildings rise, jobs flourish, and hope soars.”
A single currency, a united government, and widespread peace were among the aspirations expressed, highlighting the students’ belief that collaboration, not division, will pave the way for a prosperous future.
“Happy faces, peaceful homes, a brighter day,
Africa, unite, and seize your destiny’s way.”
Unity is our strength,” one participant said. “We may study abroad, but our hearts are with Africa. If we stand together, there’s no limit to what we can achieve."
Voices of Hope
Student organizers said the poem represents more than idealism; it reflects a growing awareness among African youth of their shared potential and responsibility.
“Unity is our strength,” one participant said. “We may study abroad, but our hearts are with Africa. If we stand together, there’s no limit to what we can achieve.”
The three-day festival not only highlighted the richness of African culture within the global student community but also reaffirmed a collective vision for Africa’s brighter, united tomorrow. Participants expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity that Russia and HSE have provided African students, a chance to study in an environment that values unity, cooperation, and resilience. Many noted that studying in Russia, known for its strong national identity and spirit of solidarity, has inspired them to carry those same values into Africa’s own journey towards unity.
