Saint Petersburg HSE Summer School is a chance for you to explore one of the most exciting cities in the world while getting a high-quality education. Best known as Window to Europe, Venice of the North, and the Cradle of Three Revolutions, the city of St. Petersburg has a lot to tell about history. 

Russian History, Art, and Culture in the 20th Сentury (3 ECTS) | July 5 – 16, 2021

This course is an opportunity to explore diverse aspects of Russian and Soviet technological, economic, and cultural history in the 20th century.

Politics and International Relations

EU-Russia Relations Today (2 ECTS) | June 28 – July 3, 2021

The course for those who would like to learn how EU-Russia relations have been developing during the past decades and what political forces lay behind one or another decision on both sides.

Russia’s Identity in World Politics (2 ECTS) | June 28 – July 9, 2021

The course aims to take an in-depth look at Russian politics understood as the conjunction of culture, society, and civilisation.

Contemporary Russian Politics (2 ECTS) | July 5 – 9, 2021

Russian politics might seem a riddle for many observers. However, this course sheds the light on different aspects of Russian politics and policy.

US-Russia Relations: Past and Present (2 ECTS) | July 12 – 23, 2021

Relations between the US and Russia  are not just about politics and diplomacy but also about mutual interest, influence, and expert dialogue.

Finance

Empirical Finance (4 ECTS) | July 12 – 23, 2021

Сombining financial econometrics and risk management, this course is meant to empower students with quantitative approaches and techniques to analyse investment and financial decisions.

Financial Risk Management (4 ECTS) | July 12 – 23, 2021

The course offers students a set of practical instruments to identify, analyse and mitigate financial risks.

Business and Management

Accommodation

Summer School students can settle into St. Peterburg by booking their accommodation at one of the university’s dormitories.

The accommodation fee per night is around 300 rubles.

Frequently Asked Questions

IN WHICH FORMAT – ONLINE OR OFFLINE – THE SUMMER SCHOOL IS GOING TO BE HELD?

We are eager to meet our students in person in the summer of 2021. However, given the severity of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) and the uncertainty regarding when the epidemiological situation will be normalised, we have postponed making a particular decision about the format.

Although we are accepting applications for the Summer School, applicants have to be informed that the university will decide on any given format by the end of March 2021.

News

On August 21st, Saint Petersburg HSE Summer School, which has been taking place since 2017, came to a close. This year it moved online due to the pandemic. 44 participants from 18 countries, including France, Ireland, the USA, the Philippines, China, and others were joining Zoom during four weeks. The organisers of the Summer School were happy to welcome students of 15 HSE partner universities such as Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, King’s College London, Sciences Po Lyon, University of Basel, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, and others.

HSE University – Saint Petersburg Summer School offers a wide range of courses corresponding to different students’ interests. However, Summer School is not only about studies: eventful programme, exploring the Cultural Capital of Russia during the white nights, meeting new friends from all over the world – this is not a complete list of reasons to participate in St. Petersburg HSE Summer School.
