Museums Reputation

In recent years, reputation and management of intangible assets became the key issues in determining the cost of a museum and strategic management.

Challenges for Museums

The greatest influence on the museum’s reputation is made by the group of factors in the development of abilities: (1) the attractiveness of the collection, (2) how inspiring the collection is, and (3) the uniqueness of the collection. The people's reputational assessment is also influenced by (4) how professionally the museum management is performed. Finally, another 'responsibility driver' which significantly influences the reputation is (5) the museum's positive effect on society (its sustainability).

Together with the Centre for Management and Reputation at the University of Navarra and the Hermitage, RepLabEdu held the conference 'Building Museum Reputation 2021' in the framework of the Cultural Forum at the Hermitage.

HSE University-St Petersburg, the State Hermitage Museum and the University of Navarra (Spain) organised the joint conference 'Research on Museum Reputation' which was devoted to internal and external factors shaping the museum’s reputation. The conference featured academic and professional experts who shared their knowledge and experience on one of the most important issues influencing the museum strategy.
