Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course is focused on the various aspects of alcohol consumption and alcohol addiction in the cross-cultural and cross-temporal perspectives. During the course the subjects of different alcohol policies, its influence on society, the social, medical and religious aspects of alcohol usage and addiction treatment will be brought to focus. The following idea of sobriety as a religious virtue alongside with the notion of sobriety as a measure to improve the quality of life of the citizens is an important aspect for a discussion during the course.
