Projects

Employees of the Department of Foreign Languages are actively involved in various scientific and methodological projects.

In 2014, Department staff conducted a study on the development of students' writing skills as part of the Literacy Development in Humanities project. The result of the project was an analysis of the formation of writing skills and related competencies in the native (Russian) and foreign (English) languages among the first and third year undergraduate students of the HSE - St. Petersburg.
Many teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages are participants or graduates of the "New Teachers" and "Future Professors" talent pool programs. Within the framework of these programs, several initiative educational projects were developed, supported by the Higher School of Economics.

In 2013, under the guidance of Natalia Smirnova, senior lecturer of the Department, the initiative educational project "Publish or Win" was successfully implemented, the purpose of which is to help the university staff publish articles in English. Within the framework of the project, an information site “Publications in English” was developed, providing basic information necessary for those who are going to publish their works in foreign journals. The project team also prepared and conducted a two-day seminar for HSE faculty on publication activity, in which foreign and domestic researchers took part.

In 2016, Associate Professor of the Department, Ph.D. Natalia Ursul joined the team of the project "Inclusive Higher School: Creating a Comfortable Educational Environment for Students with Disabilities" (project website - https://www.hse.ru/inclusive), which won the 2016 Initiative Educational Projects competition. The project is aimed at improving the quality of the educational environment for students with health disabilities and people with disabilities studying at the Higher School of Economics. The project team not only conducts a study of the needs of such students and analyzes the experience of the HSE faculty and administrative staff who worked with them, but also develops general guidelines for teachers on working with students and a map of opportunities for students, which will allow them to find ways to solve a particular educational problem. The project conducts surveys of students and teachers, webinars and seminars with the participation of leading experts in the field of inclusive education.
