The Department of History was created in 2012. The overarching goal of the department is systematic development of the field of global, comparative, and transnational history as a potent tool of overcoming the limitations of national history canon, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue in the field of social sciences and humanities, and brining new public relevance to historical knowledge. The department mission includes the development of new type of historical undergraduate and graduate education in Russia and pioneering new research fields in Russian historiography in dialogue with the global historical profession.

Elena Kochetkova, a research assistant of the Center for Historical Research, has returned from a short-term internship at the Aleksanteri Institute (Helsinki) which was made possible by the support from the Center for International Mobility, Finland.
During the internship Elena worked on her dissertational project "Soviet Forestry in 1953 - 1964: Modernization anf Technology Transfer" which constitutes a part of the research project at the Center for Historical Research "Knowledge in a Divided World: Attraction, Confrontation, Cooperation of Expert Communities during the Cold War." Her work included research in the National Archive and National Library of Finland located in Helsinki.
