The undergraduate programme in Design, launched in 2018 at HSE University in Saint Petersburg, is the first programme in the city founded upon the principles of modern design education. The success of the HSE School of Art and Design attests to the fact that academic study goes hand in hand with practical project work in the industry. The methodology of the School of Design allows students to experiment with various areas of design, gain experience of real design work, build a portfolio and become a strong designer who is ready to solve complex problems as part of a leading design studio team.
The Art and Design School has become a separate faculty within the structure of HSE University-St Petersburg. The new department includes the bachelor's and master's programmes in Design. Mitya Kharshak has been appointed dean of the faculty.
On September 1 in St Petersburg and September 13 in Istanbul, Mitya Kharshak, Head of the HSE University-St Petersburg Art and Design School and famous designer and publisher, will present the latest issue of the Projector journal devoted to Turkish design.
In the latest part of a series exploring St Petersburg and the Leningrad region with HSE professors, art historian Ksenia Malich talks about why it is hard to see the Twelve Collegia as an administrative building, which library sceptics of modernism should see, and which poet you can meet in the city centre.
