"Mobilisation", "Chaos" and "Crisis": Terminological Reflections on the Russian Empire's Great War, 1914-1917

September 4, at 18.00. Professor of Modern European History Anthony Heywood from the University of Aberdeen will give a talk on "Mobilisation", "Chaos" and "Crisis": Terminological Reflections on the Russian Empire's Great War, 1914-1917" at the regular Research Seminar "Boundaries of History" of the Center for Historical Research and the Department of History of the Higher School of Economics in Saint Petersburg.

Mobilisation, chaos and crisis are terms that are used constantly in relation to Russia's Great War. But usually they are used with little if any thought about their meaning. This talk will suggest that some thought about terminology could help us rethink some traditional ideas about Russia's involvement in the war.

Venue: Promyshlennaya St., 14 a, Room 324.
