What Minor At HSE Is
Despite the fact that such an innovation appeared in 2014, many students still have questions. In this article, we will figure out what a minor is, give some tips on how to choose the one.
Minor is a set of additional courses, an extra study profile for undergraduate students. A student is allowed to choose a number of disciplines for study during 2 and 3 years. Minor is an additional baggage of knowledge that gives a HSE student a competitive advantage, as well as the opportunity to work in an additional field.
HSE subjects are divided into two blocks: majors and minors. Majors are those subjects that you study during your educational program, such as economics. Minors are those subjects that you will study to broaden your horizons, a kind of "second specialty", for example, media communication. Thus, it turns out that, as a result, a student-economist also has the skills to work with media resources.
Typically, minor is prepared by various schools and departments of the HSE. For example, the School of Culturology is preparing a program "Modern Culture: Theories and Practices", where students can get basic knowledge on the analysis of the modern cultural process, theater and film practices, and cultural history. But if you want to study different courses from all the minors, you are given the opportunity to choose the "free minor". These are 4 unrelated disciplines from different programs.
How to choose minor? Check out the catalog of minors for your year, read the description, details. Find out from senior students who study on this minor about all the nuances you are interested in: the order of grading, the courses available, how seminars are held, etc. It is very important to determine those subjects that you are interested in and make your own rating - you will need it to fill out an application in the LMS.
In general, a minor is a great opportunity to try yourself in related fields and gain some knowledge. The main thing is to choose it taking into account your interests and usefulness for your working. Good luck and success in learning!
