Trust me, participating in cultural festivals gives you the opportunity to interact with diverse cultures and people from various nationalities of the world.

As a second-year master’s student at the Higher School of Economics (HSE) Moscow, I have had the privilege of immersing myself in a vibrant academic environment that values cultural diversity. One of the HSE Cultural Festival is an event that not only celebrates the rich tapestry of global cultures but also fosters a sense of unity, identity and mutual respect among students from diverse backgrounds. This festival has profoundly affected my personal and academic journey, broadened my sense of cultural awareness, and understanding our individual core values, showcased by unity in diversity. In addition, I believe it is a cornerstone of cultural preservation in Russian society.

Appreciating unity in diversity Through Cultural Exchange

Participating in the festival has been a transformative experience for me, and it has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and engage with cultures vastly different from my own, as I am from West Africa. I have learned about the customs, languages, and histories of various countries; For example, I was fascinated by the intricate art of making traditional Indian rangoli, the Holli festival, savouring the taste of delicious Pakistani cuisines, dancing to the rhythmic beats of African drumming, etc. These experiences have not only enriched my knowledge but also enhanced my ability to communicate and collaborate with people from different cultural backgrounds.

For international students like me, the festival has been a lifeline, helping us adapt to our new environment and feel at home in Moscow. This is because the warmth and hospitality extended by the Russian students have made the transition smoother and more enjoyable. Interestingly, The HSE Cultural Festival goes beyond cultural exchange; it fosters a sense of belonging and community among students, by bringing together students, faculties, and even departments. This creates a shared experience that strengthens the bonds within the university. It is impressive to see how the festival encourages dialogue and mutual respect, breaking down stereotypes and fostering a more inclusive environment. This sense of community is crucial for our emotional well-being and academic success.

Why Participate in HSE Cultural Festival

The HSE Cultural festival is essential for student’s growth especially international students. It provides opportunities for self-expression, creativity, and cultural awareness, building confidence and life skills. Participating in cultural activities in the HSE University, can also improve student’s academic performance and make them feel more connected to the school community. In today’s world, where academics is so important, it is crucial to remember the value of cultural programs. It plays a key role in helping international students become well-rounded individuals, ready to take on the world with creativity, confidence, and strong social skills.

In Conclusion

The HSE Cultural Festival is more than just an event. It is a celebration of the rich diversity that defines our global community. For me as a student it has been a source of inspiration, learning, and personal growth. I urge my fellow students to actively participate in this festival, not only to celebrate their own cultures but also to embrace the beauty of other cultures. In doing so, we contribute to the preservation of our cultural heritage and the creation of a more inclusive and harmonious world.

By engaging in such cultural exchanges, we not only enrich our own lives but also play a vital role in fostering global understanding and unity. The HSE Cultural Festival is a shining example of how education can transcend boundaries and bring people together, and I am grateful to be a part of this extraordinary journey, and I urge my fellow international students to be proactive and showcase their cultural heritage unapologetically.
