25 апреля 2019 в рамках семинара "Границы истории" генеральный секретарь Комиссии по истории политических партий и парламентаризма, профессор Франкфуртского университета Андреас Шульц представит доклад "A Reward for National Service? War, Democracy, and Women’s Suffrage in Europe". Доклад организован совместно с Германским историческим институтом в Москве и научно-исследовательской сетью EuParl.
War and Revolution led to a total revision of gender order in almost every part of Europe – as far as the right to vote is concerned. Millions of women were enfranchised and thus acquired full citizen-status. However, the legislation on women’s suffrage in Europe appears highly unequal creating different levels of democratic participation. The paper examines the trans-national gender discourse and the national experiences of war which motivated governments to suffrage reform.
