Our researchers start the new season of publication activity

The Ethnographic Review published an article by Svyatoslav Polyakova "The Master of historical reenactment on a stage and in his life"

Our researchers start the new season of publication activity

Author considers in his work the professionalisation of the crafts in the context of medieval historical reconstruction using postsubcultural approach. 10 unstructured biographical interviews were provided as material of the article. Svyatoslav claims that the historical reconstruction provides to the participants an opportunity of extraordinary, transgressive experience by dressing up and esthetical violence. In the modern world transgression is marginalized as deviant behavior. Reenactors tend to “normalize” their participation in historical reconstruction, make it coherent with legitimate forms of maturation and socialization in order to bridge the gap between the stage and normal life. One of the possible trajectories of normalization in the framework of the reenactment scene is the professionalization of craft consumption, the transformation of the craftsman-user into the master and his economic practices of self-sustainment in the profession.
