The Department of Finance was created on the basis of the Department of Financial Markets which was founded in 1998 and is the oldest in the campus. The staff have a broad spectrum of research interests including problems of corporate finance, financial markets and institutions, risk, corporate tax planning, accounting and audits and innovation.

As part of the new course on mergers and acquisitions in the second year of the MP "Finances", a guest lecture was held by a professor from a partner university from India (UPES) on the topic "Synergy assessment»
On November 23, Dr. Kamal Ghosh Ray, a world-renowned scholar and consultant in the field of mergers and acquisitions, senior research fellow at the Institute for Mergers, Acquisitions and Alliances, Austria, spoke to master's students. The professor told students of the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg about where synergy arises in mergers and acquisitions of businesses, and how to correctly take synergy into account in the transaction price. Aspects of synergy assessment in cross-border transactions were also touched uponssessment".
