On February, 27th on Master's programme ‘Finance’ there was a guest lecture of the vice-president of Bank Saint-Petersburg Alexander Leonidovich Vyalkov. The lecture aroused great interest among students and became a valuable source of practical knowledge about the work of commercial banks.
The speaker analysed in detail the key aspects of bank management, including decision-making structure, interaction of departments and strategic planning. Special attention was paid to the model of business processes, which determines the efficiency of the bank, as well as mechanisms of adaptation to modern economic conditions.
Alexander Leonidovich presented an analysis of the organisational structure of a commercial bank and explained how management decisions are formed at various levels. He also spoke about the functioning of corporate and retail business, mechanisms of interaction with clients and strategies for attracting new clients. The speaker emphasised the role of committees managing business processes and their impact on the achievement of key performance indicators.
One of the most discussed issues was the bank's development strategy in the current environment, including the impact of sanctions on the Russian banking sector. The speaker spoke about the mechanisms of sanctions pressure, steps to normalise business processes and government support measures. The discussion also touched upon capital management, credit and deposit policy and digitalisation of banking activities.
The final stage of the lecture was a discussion of the cashback system as a tool for increasing customer loyalty. Students actively participated in the discussion, asking questions about how banks form cashback categories and what benefits they get from such programmes.
A.L. Vyalkov's lecture was an important educational event that allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of the modern principles of the banking sector. We thank the speaker for his informative report and look forward to new meetings within the framework of educational programmes!
