The Department of Finance was created on the basis of the Department of Financial Markets which was founded in 1998 and is the oldest in the campus. The staff have a broad spectrum of research interests including problems of corporate finance, financial markets and institutions, risk, corporate tax planning, accounting and audits and innovation.

24 of December Financial department team held a friendly meeting of a coming New year 2025 and summed up productive results of the passing year 2024
At 24 of December inside of the Saint-Petersburg High school of economics a friendly team of the Financial department celebrated the upcoming New year. Tutors, postgraduate students, part-time teachers of the department gathered together in a nice atmosphere of the Professors club. Together with congratulations, wishes of wellness, happiness and new achievements participants tried their hands in competitions, shared their experience and achievements, discussed future plans.
The year 2024 is filled with productive results and the department is glad to share its achievements with you!
Special attention is devoted to the start of the Financial specialization of the International bachelor’s degree. In the year 2024 the specialization, that takes the 3rd and the 4th years of education, was chosen by more than 100 students. As part of specialization young people deeply study financial disciplines – financial and management accounting, taxes, business valuation, corporate finances, audit, investments, risks, financial instruments and other. We plan to meet more than 150 students in 2025.
We are proud of cooperation with universities of Asia and Latin America, those are in the form of a joint research and academic writing, exchange of experience, of students, we plan to exchange tutors, open the mirror labs, double diplomas.
Department tutors increase their qualification and win on the contents, a group of the Saint-Petersburg High school of economics students guided by the department took a 3rd place on the international
competition of the CFA Regional Societies Research Challenge. In 2024 for the first time ever the Financial department organized a conference named “Financial market in changing environment: challenges, resources, solutions”, which gathered more than 100 participants from business and science. Despite many difficulties Master program of Finance is once again accredited by ACCA.
Finance department devotes a lot of attention to cooperation with business, holds guest lectures and case championships, students receive straight line communication with the practitioners of the leading companies, ability to receive new experience, ask questions and get into internships. Together with students Financial department started a project on introduction of the Balance scorecard in a BI analytical system for the company «Sumitec international»; students execute audit procedures for a medium size company as part of the course paper. As part of the specialization courses we plan to tightly cooperate with the former Big four audit companies, the successor of the leading consulting firm McKinsey, 1C, VKontakte, Gazprom neft and other largest finance expertise representatives.
