Course Syllabus

Abstract

The aim of the course is to familiarize the participating students with the advanced concepts and frameworks of purchasing and supply management (procurement), to familiarize with the role of logistics and supply chain management in the production enterprise, warehousing and inventory management principles and tools of operational efficiency and to develop students’ related analytical and decision-making skills related to industrial enterprise functionality.

  • To develop students’ systematic understanding of the role of supply chain management in the operations of a manufacturing enterprise and its impact on operational efficiency, service level, and competitiveness.
  • To build students’ ability to analyze and design key supply chain processes in an industrial context, including planning, procurement, transportation, warehousing, inventory management, and supplier interaction.
  • To develop the ability to apply modern approaches and tools to managerial decision-making in supply chain management, taking into account manufacturing specifics, risks, constraints, and external environment requirements.
  • To prepare students to evaluate the effectiveness of logistics and procurement decisions and to formulate proposals aimed at improving the resilience and performance of the supply chain of a manufacturing enterprise.

  • Demonstrate deep knowledge and critical understanding of theories, principles, concepts and methodologies of supply chain management of the manufacturing enterprise
  • Examine and critically appraise quantitative tools relevant in order to explore strategic procurement management

  • Plan and perform independent research projects in the area of supply chain management applying the advanced concepts of strategic procurement management, lean principles and operational excellence

    Students are assessed on their active participation in lecture topics discussions.
  • non-blocking Activity on the seminars
    Students are assessed on their active participation in seminars activity. Seminar activity may include, but is not limited to: participation in quizzes, group games and interactive exercises on the seminar topic, polls and surveys, completion of take-home assignments based on seminar outcomes, solving calculation-based problems, written responses to discussion questions, and other forms of engagement specified by the teacher. Seminar activity may include use of AI for specific activities.
  • non-blocking Case study solutions
    3 case studies are completed in mini-groups during seminars (maximum 5 students per group). One week before the seminar, students receive preliminary materials (case description and/or supporting documents) for independent self-study outside of class. During the seminar, groups are given a specific situation or question related to the case and complete the remaining analysis in class. Each group then presents and defends their solution in front of the full seminar group, either using a prepared digital presentation or a flip chart to visualize their findings.
  • non-blocking Individual Written Assignment
    Each student completes an individual written assignment (essay or structured report) on a topic assigned by the teacher, requiring the application of course concepts to a specific operational scenario. Students receive the assignment topic one week before the final seminar. The written work is submitted prior to the seminar, and the seminar session itself is dedicated to the defense and discussion of the submitted assignments.
  • non-blocking Exam
    The exam is a written assignment completed by hand on a sheet of paper. Duration: 60 minutes. The exam is a blocking element: if the Exam grade is below 4, the final grade equals the Exam grade regardless of the accumulated grade. During the exam AI is not allowed. The use of a calculator and one A4 sheet with pre-written formulas is permitted. A printed English-Russian / Russian-English dictionary is also allowed. Detailed exam rules will be communicated to students several days before the exam date.
