Nikita Anisimov: ‘HSE Is More than a University’
HSE University’s rector has congratulated students, teachers, employees, researchers, and graduates on the university’s 30th anniversary. He said that HSE University’s history was impressive for its swiftness—in just three decades, it has become one of Russia’s best and largest universities, joined the international academic community, achieved good rankings, and is now successfully competing for talent globally.
‘They say that big ideas have small beginnings. HSE University started as a master’s programme in economics. Today, it is a huge, comprehensive national research university. It has campuses in five cities, 50,000 students, almost 10,000 staff members, and over 100,000 highly qualified graduates. If someone asks me what the secret behind HSE University is, I’ll answer with the words of our motto: “We study not for school, but for life”,’ said Nikita Anisimov.
He also said that today, HSE University is a higher school for research, society, economics, and the country. HSE University deals not only in social sciences and economics, but also humanities, engineering, and computer science. Here, fundamental and applied research is carried out in genomics, social policy, economic forecasting, psychology, finance, and history. The university has a hundred research centres and laboratories.
‘I believe that HSE is more than a university. It is the first-choice university for the most talented students. HSE University is a flagship of Russian education, a leading centre of expertise and analysis. Our graduates make up the intellectual elite of Russia. HSE University is an environment that offers opportunities to develop one’s talents. Our researchers work on the frontiers of science. We are a driver of development in our country,’ the rector said.
