Course Syllabus

Abstract

This introductory course covers the fundamental features of countries and regions of the world which determine the diversity of international business landscape. As the modern turbulent business world becomes a more challenging place to operate internationally it is necessary to educate students in contemporary measures and approaches to analysing the differences between types of systems which shape business environments across the globe (e.g. economic, legal, etc.). in order to provide students with the skills necessary to capture global business opportunities. The course provides a variety of company level case studies and role-plays based on a fundamental country-level overview of such areas of international business as Differences in Economic Development, National Differences in Political, Economic, and Legal Systems; Differences in Cultures, Ethics, CSR and Sustainability. The successful completion of the course will increase students’ ability to develop their knowledge on fundamental differences between global markets and the corresponding implications for international business practices as well as to think globally about countries and regions of the world which enable a high quality decision making processes informed by the 'big picture' which will be enriched with evidence based opinions of international business experts invited to contribute to this introductory course.

  • The main goal of the course is to provide a fundamental overview of the diversity of structures and systems international businesses face when operating in different regions of the world; to develop the students' skills and abilities required for professional activity on global markets via role plays and solving recent business cases based on the corresponding conceptual foundations in modern IB literature.

  • • • Able to Identify the forces that lead to differences in social culture., identify the business and economic implications of differences in culture, recognize how differences in social culture influence values in business, demonstrate an appreciation for the economic and business implications of cultural change.
  • • • Able to recognize an ethical, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability dilemma, identify the causes of unethical behavior by managers as they relate to business, corporate social responsibility, or sustainability, explain how global managers can incorporate ethical considerations into their decision making.
