Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course is aimed at acquirement basic knowledge and competences of modern Korean language, including phonetics, graphics, normative grammar and vocabulary in the amount provided by the course. The course consists of tutorials (64 hours). Tutorials or practice run provide students with basic knowledge of phonetics, intonation, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary of modern German and focus on practical activities and exercises as well as project work. The tutorials also involve feedback on students’ written work, aimed at developing basic linguistic knowledge and practical skills of Korean presenting the project results and home-reading in the written and oral forms.

Learning Objectives

  • To learn a set of important words, common phrases, and expressions used in both written and spoken Korean, which are needed for effective communication.
  • To be able to translate common phrases accurately between Korean and Russian, both in speaking and writing, and to handle most situations while in Korea, including sharing personal experiences and explaining thoughts and opinions.
  • To develop skills in summarizing and making notes on written and spoken Korean texts for everyday conversations.

  • Greet and introduce themselves in Korean.
  • Correctly write and read the letters of the Korean alphabet.
  • Use days of the week, weekend, months.
  • Ask for and explain how to get to places.
  • Talk about the university, and about various events.
  • Name objects and ask about them.
  • Explain themselves in a cafe and a store, discuss the culture of restaurant invitations in Korea and Russia, and express food preferences, making orders in a restaurant.
  • Describe the location of objects.
  • Learn to apologize, express gratitude, sympathy, and surprise.
  • Talk about family and count objects using two counting systems.
  • Describe daily routines and schedules.
  • Ask about and talk about hobbies.

    Types of mistakes: · Syllables are written with a mistake - 0/5 of the complete mistake; · Syllable is not recorded or there are 2 or more mistakes in one syllable - 1 complete mistake; · There was one grammar mistake in the task - 1 complete mistake

    Classwork includes vocabulary dictations, written assignments for translating sentences from Russian to Korean and from Korean to Russian (10 sentences), and creative tasks like writing essays.
  • non-blocking Control work
    Control work is done during the module after each topic is covered. It includes tasks on listening, reading, writing, and answering questions orally.
  • non-blocking Exam
    The exam has an oral part and a final written assignment, which takes place in the last class of the semester. The oral part happens during the exam session, and students have 15-20 minutes to respond.
