Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course addresses issues multinational companies face in the complexity of operating across borders. As the modern turbulent business world becomes a more challenging place to operate internationally it is necessary to educate students in contemporary tools of global business environment analysis and global strategy formulation to supply the necessary skills of taking advantage of global business opportunities. The course provides a general overview of the major areas of international business including National Differences in Political, Economic, and Legal Systems; Ethics, CSR and Sustainability. The successful completion of the course will increase students’ ability to think globally about any company, its positioning on international markets to achieve sustainable competitive advantage in rapidly changing international environment

  • The main goal of the course is to provide a systematic view on international business environment, to empower the students with critical skills and abilities, conceptual foundations and competences required for professional activity on global markets.

  • • • Able to provide a summary of the special features of the phenomenon of globalization, Describe the changing nature of the global economy, Explain the main arguments in the debate over the impact of globalization • • Able to demonstrate skills in distinguishing between national differences across countries when making decisions
  • • • Able to understand how the political, economic and legal systems of countries differ, explain the implications for management practice of national differences in political economy
  • • • Able to explain what determines the level of economic development of a nation, Identify the macropolitical and macroeconomic changes occurring worldwide, Explain the implications for management practice of national difference in political economy
  • • • Able to Identify the forces that lead to differences in social culture., identify the business and economic implications of differences in culture, recognize how differences in social culture influence values in business, demonstrate an appreciation for the economic and business implications of cultural change.
  • • • Able to recognize an ethical, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability dilemma, identify the causes of unethical behavior by managers as they relate to business, corporate social responsibility, or sustainability, explain how global managers can incorporate ethical considerations into their decision making.

Assessment Elements

    Student teams will present their results to the fellow students and facilitate Q&A session. Active participation is assessed by 1. the quality of the question(s) asked (the use of course material is required when asking a question); 2. the clarity and the correctness of the students' answers. The contents should incorporate material from lectures, the course literature and readings, and additional academic and/or media material found independently.

    Group work has to be conducted in groups of 4–5 students in the format assigned by the task. Student teams will submit the report and present their projects.
