Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course covers both the fundamental features of countries and regions of the world which determine the diversity of international business landscape (on country and industry level) and also focuses on Strategy and Structure of International Business and International Business Functions on the level of the firm. As the modern turbulent business world becomes a more challenging place to operate internationally it is necessary to educate students in contemporary measures and approaches to analysing the differences between types of systems which shape business environments across the globe (e.g. economic, legal, etc.). in order to provide students with the skills necessary to capture global business opportunities. The course provides a variety of country, industry and company level case studies and role-plays based on the central areas of international business (from differences in economic and legal systems across countries to the challenges of orchestrating business functions of global SMEs and MNEs). The successful completion of the course will increase students’ ability to develop their knowledge on fundamental differences between global markets and the corresponding implications for international business practices as well as to think globally about countries and regions of the world which enable a high quality decision making processes informed by the 'big picture' which will be enriched with evidence based opinions of international business experts invited to contribute to this introductory course. Students will learn apply to cutting edge international business frameworks and both classic and modern theoretical advances to think globally about any company and its positioning in rapidly changing international environment.
