Course Syllabus

Abstract

Business processes exist in every company, but their quality varies — and this largely determines the overall efficiency of the organization. Understanding the theoretical foundations of process management, as well as practical methods and techniques for analyzing, modelling, optimizing, and reengineering processes, is valuable at various management levels: when designing workflows for a specific team or project, modifying IT systems, automating work tasks, establishing new business lines, or reducing costs in established businesses. This curriculum is designed to study, critically analyze, and develop practical skills in applying the best practices of process management. The course will focus on building the ability to select and apply appropriate process improvement frameworks, taking into account the variety of potential business cases that graduates will need to address in their future work.

  • To study the theoretical foundations of business process management (BPM) and gain competencies in selecting and applying appropriate theoretical framework depending on the business case.
  • To equip students with proficiency in standard process modelling notations and best practices for accurate and consistent documentation of workflows.
  • To gain competencies in identifying business process inefficiencies and bottlenecks, and develop skills in designing, reengineering, and optimizing business processes.
  • To foster competencies in organizational change management associated with process improvements – ensuring that optimized processes are successfully adopted across the organization.

  • Conduct end-to-end process analysis, collecting and interpreting data from multiple sources to build a complete picture of current workflows.
  • Create clear, standard-compliant process models (using BPMN 2.0 and other notations) that accurately represent both the current state (as is) and the future state (to be), ensuring they are understandable to both business and technical stakeholders.
  • Apply process optimization and reengineering techniques to enhance process performance.
  • Develop and execute implementation plans for process improvements, manage stakeholder expectations, and mitigate resistance to change.

    Description: The exam is close-booked; the students may have only an A4 paper with necessary formulae, that they prepared themselves. The examination consists of multiple-choice questions, numerical problems and open questions that require an extensive answer.
