Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course is aimed at developing students' understanding of the fundamentals of Russian business law, including the forms of doing business in Russia, their differences and features. The course provides students with key knowledge in the fields of constitutional, civil, labor, tax, and administrative law. The course content is structured in such a way as to meet the practical needs of students in their future professional activities.

Learning Objectives

• The objective of the course to provide students with basic knowledge of Russian business law, the forms and features of doing business in Russia, as well as to develop skills in assessing legal risks.

Expected Learning Outcomes

• Know and understand the features of Russian business law and its sources
• Distinguish the most commonly used forms of doing business in Russia and their features
• Know and understand the specifics of concluding an employment contract with Russian citizens and foreign citizens, and understand the basics of labor legislation
• Know and understand the order and features of incorporation of a business in Russia
• Know and understand the basics of contract law, the constituent elements of a contract, and distinguish between the main categories of civil law contracts
• Know and distinguish between intellectual property objects and the specifics of their legal regulation
• Know and understand the specifics of concluding consumer contracts, the grounds and amount of liability for violation of consumer rights
• To know and understand the main provisions of the Russian tax system, to know the taxation regimes and their differences
• Know and understand the basics of legislation in the field of state control of doing business in Russia

Course Contents

• Definition and features of Russian Business Law.
• Forms of doing business in Russia
• Incorporation and operation of a business in Russia: the procedure for registration and conduct of business
• Contract Law
• Legal regulation of intellectual property and personal data protection
• Consumer contracts. Consumer protection
• The main provisions of the tax legislation. Inspections and investigations

Assessment Elements

• Activity
  Description: Seminars are held for students to assimilate the material obtained during lectures, and can take the form of an open discussion, discussion of questions on course materials, debates, model trials, and discussion of the material given to students for independent preparation before the seminar.
• Written in-class assignment (cases)
  A written test in the form of a task is a student's solution to 2 cases based on course materials completed at the time of writing the written test. The task takes 60 minutes to complete. The use of any additional materials, including textbooks, notes, other educational materials, as well as the use of personal phones and other digital devices is prohibited.
• Exam
  The exam is conducted in the form of a test for the entire course material. The test consists of 60 questions, and the test takes 90 minutes to complete. The use of any additional materials, including textbooks, notes, other educational materials, as well as the use of personal phones and other digital devices is prohibited.

  0.2 * Activity + 0.6 * Exam + 0.2 * Written in-class assignment (cases)
