Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course is aimed at acquirement basic knowledge and competences of modern Korean language, including phonetics, graphics, normative grammar and vocabulary in the amount provided by the course. The course consists of tutorials. Tutorials or practice run provide students with basic knowledge of phonetics, intonation, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary of modern Korean and focus on practical activities and exercises as well as project work. The tutorials also involve feedback on students’ written work, aimed at developing basic linguistic knowledge and practical skills of Korean presenting the project results and home-reading in the written and oral forms.

  • To engage confidently in conversations about daily life, interests, work, and cultural topics.

  • To ask for information and respond to information requests both speaking and writing in everyday situations at level A2. Be able to communicate in typical A2 situations, such as greeting, introducing yourself (in formal and informal ways), apologizing, congratulating, organizing information, asking for and giving personal details, reasons, motives, times and purposes.
  • To describe and tell about identify people, talk about others, describe connections and similarities.
  • To talk about ongoing actions in the present tense, current events, daily routines.
  • To describe and compare objects, people, and their traits.
  • To express opinions, attitudes, and knowledge: argue your point of view, agree or disagree, evaluate ideas and facts.
  • To analyze attitudes, explain causes and effects, goals or difficulties.
  • To share tastes, wishes, feelings: talk about plans and intentions, show interest or surprise, express dislike or gratitude.
  • To draw someone’s attention or give instructions, advice or recommendations.

Assessment Elements

  • non-blocking Homework
    current assignments on various types of speech activity based on written, oral, audio and video materials and their combinations, including assignments aimed at preparing for current, modular and examination work, which are completed by the student independently and checked by the teacher throughout the course, are based on the course material and may vary slightly depending on the individual characteristics of the group.
  • non-blocking Modular tests
    written lexical and grammatical tests based on various types of course materials, for the completion of which the student is given 2-3 academic hours, are completed directly in class.
  • non-blocking Exam
    during the exam, students will be tested on their ability to understand spoken and written information. In the "Grammar" part, students need to complete sentences using the correct words and particles. In the "Listening" part, students listen to information and answer questions about it. In the "Writing" part, students write an essay on a given topic, about 15 sentences long. In the "Speaking" part, students answer 10 questions clearly and fully when asked by the teacher.
