Course Syllabus

Abstract

Macroeconomics III is an advanced course that builds upon intermediate macroeconomic theory and provides a rigorous, model‑based framework for understanding aggregate economic phenomena. The course is designed for students who already possess a solid foundation in microeconomics, mathematics and basic econometrics.
Learning Objectives

Learning Objectives

  • Students will be exposed to both analytical derivations and numerical solution methods. The course bridges theory with empirical evidence, drawing on recent research papers and real‑world policy debates. By the end of the course, participants will be able to critically evaluate macroeconomic policy choices, interpret current economic conditions through the lens of formal models, and conduct their own small‑scale quantitative macroeconomic analysis.

  • Know main forms of stabilization policies (fiscal and monetary), and be able to describe their effects graphically
  • Know main properties of the labor market functioning and causes of unemployment.
  • Understand building blocks of the demand and supply model
  • Understand causes of exchange rate fluctuations
  • Understand causes of inflation and effects of anti-inflationary policy
  • Understand building blocks of the model of goods market/money market equilibrium
