Strategic Entrepreneurship Centre

The Strategic Entrepreneurship Centre is a structural subdivision of the St Petersburg School of Economics and Management engaged in field research into entrepreneurship and strategic management.

The organisational goal of the centre is to create a scientific and applied competence centre in strategic entrepreneurship in order to develop world-class research and train research personnel in the field of strategic entrepreneurship.

The main scientific goal of the centre is to develop a new scientific approach to understanding the role of strategic entrepreneurship as an adaptation mechanism (at the level of firms and national economies) to turbulence in the external environment. This approach will be based on an original concept of strategic entrepreneurship as a mechanism for creating endogenous variability in the commercial results of a company. Understanding endogenous-created variability in entrepreneurship makes it possible to:

  • At the firm level: develop a considered investment policy by balancing incremental and radical innovation projects according to the situation in the external environment. In practice, our approach will allow firms to better adapt to external turbulence.
  • At the national level: introduce the selection mechanisms required to encourage entrepreneurship and stimulate the creation of ‘blockbuster’ companies. The methodology developed will make it possible to predict the development prospects of specific companies and to direct support to firms and industries with high growth potential.

The objectives of the centre include:

  • Facilitating research, expert analytical and educational activities in the field of strategic entrepreneurship.
  • Implementing theoretical and applied research projects on the behaviour of Russian firms in an uncertain environment.
  • Developing new methodological approaches to fundamental research in the field of strategic entrepreneurship.
