To Do Good, You Don’t Have to be a Magician

On December 5, 2014, the third annual New Year’s Charity Fair took place at the Department of Management of the St. Petersburg School of Economics and Management. The goal of the event was to raise funds for a New Year holiday at an orphanage in Svirstroy.

The fair, which took place in a cozy setting filled with holiday spirit, featured familiar melodies from the 1960s, and, of course, the happy faces of lecturers and staff members who gathered together to do good.

A garage sale gave guests the opportunity to buy best-selling books, postcards, notebooks, digital devices, colourful jewelry, unusual accessories, toys, and handmade souvenirs. In the game zone, students and lecturers played board games. Guests could also get wonderful mehndi (henna tattoos), take funny shoots in a photo booth, or paint cups.

One of the most popular activities of the event was, of course, the Bake Sale with homemade cookies and pies from students and faculty. BigCakeHouse, a special guest of HSE Charity Fair, brought their incredible macaroons and cupcakes.

In the middle of the day an auction took place where unusual lots were raffled, such as a CD with poems by Valery Gordin, Dean of St. Petersburg School of Economics and Management, paintings and hand-made batiks, Christmas ornaments, and other souvenirs.

All the money raised, 44,185 roubles, will be used to hold a New Year’s holiday party for children at an orphanage in Svirstroy, a small town in the Leningrad Region.

The tradition of the Charity Fair at the faculty is growing; each year more and more people are willing to help the good initiative. Let’s do good together!
