Research seminar at CHEMP (21 November)

On 21 November at 16:50 CHEMP’s research seminar will be held in room 346 (Kantemirovskata street). Two speakers will present the following projects:

«EQ-5D in Russia: concept, application algorithm, estimation methods» by Alina Khabibullina, junior research fellow at CHEMP

Any research that combines quality of life and health indicators serves as a unique approach that helps to transform the traditional perspective on deceases and to improve efficiency of their treatment. EQ-5D is an instrument that offers a reliable method for general health assessment. Reliability of estimations tends to depend on using the instrument according to international protocols, correct interpretations of patients’ health indicators and following the design of the research project. Thorough use of health analysis presented by EQ-5D together with EQ-VAS assessments helps to identify which aspects of quality of life are dependent on changes in patients’ health, how health of every individual changes dynamically and how an individual views their health condition if they are offered a scale that goes beyond the five basic components of the questionnaire.

«Health and Labour Force Participation in Russia» by Venera Bagranova, research intern at CHEMP

The research helps to study impact of health shocks on employment in Russia. Here, health shock is determined by decreases in self-assessed health (SAH). Estimations were conducted using the difference-in-differences approach and data from RLMS-HSE. Estimations suggest a significant negative effect of decreases in SAH and employment. The effect was found to be heterogeneous across gender and age groups. Group of 40-59-year-olds was found to be the most sensitive towards the negative effect. Cases with severe decreases in SAH suggest greater decreases in the probability of being employed.
