Financial aid and alternative options for studying abroad for HSE students

The importance of an intercultural learning experience as part of a modern, high-quality education is increasingly being recognised, and therefore new opportunities for financial support have been appearing at various levels. 
 

The list below shows some of the opportunities available for funding international student mobility. Explore the information, do some further research (look at the websites of international universities, foreign government information, funds), talk to other students about existing opportunities that they know of, and you may discover other funding sources. We will be grateful if you share your findings, so that we can pass on the information within our HSE community to make the study abroad experience more affordable for HSE St. Petersburg students.

Study in Czech Republic

— Czech Republic Government Scholarships

Applications are invited for Czech Republic Government scholarships available for foreign university/college students or graduates and PhD candidates who wish to accomplish a study or research stay at one of the Czech Republic institutions of higher education.

Study in Europe

— UniCredit & Universities Foundation

UniCredit & Universities Foundation is launching the 5th UniCredit Study-Abroad Exchange Programme. The competition offers 25 grants to undergraduate and master students to spend three to six months abroad at any university within the UniCredit perimeter.

Study in Finland

— CIMO Fellowships for International Doctoral Students in Finland

Applications are invited for the CIMO fellowship programme available to students and researchers from all countries and from all academic fields to pursue doctoral studies at a Finnish university.

—  Grants & Scholarships by Embassy of France in Russia
This grant from the French Embassy in Russia provides support to Russian students with an aptitude for French and English, who wish to continue their masters studies in France.
—  Eiffel Scholarships

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched the Eiffel excellence scholarship programs to support French centers of higher education in their international outreach initiatives to attract strong and committed foreign students interested in graduate and post-graduate (Ph.D.) education. 
 

—  Campus France Scholarship Database

CampusBourses delivers instant information on financial aid. From the bachelor to the postdoc levels, CampusBourses contains data on grant and scholarship programs of national and local governments, corporations, foundations, and institutions of higher education.

Study in Germany
 

—  The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

The largest funding organization in the world to support the international exchange of students and scholars. Since it was founded in 1925, more than 1.9 million scholars in Germany and abroad have received DAAD funding.

—  The Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation

A foundation set-up by a German citizen. Every year the Foundation grants over 700 competitive research fellowships and awards primarily going to academics in the areas of natural sciences (mathematics included) and humanities. Scholars from all over the world come to Germany to work on research projects they have chosen with partners in Germany. 
 

—  Copernicus Scholarship

The scholarship supports Eastern European and Central Asian students in Berlin, Hamburg and Munich.

Each year the COPERNICUS fund gives 12 - 20 students from Eastern Europe and Central Asia the opportunity to study at 1 of 3 higher education institutions covered by the scholarship fund - for 1 semester, and then to do a 2-3-month internship (a mandatory element).

Students studying Law, any field of Economics, Political Science, Humanities, Social Sciences (e.g. Journalism, History, Sociology) are eligible.

COPERNICUS covers living expenses during the studies (accommodation, food, health insurance, enrolment fees, public transportation costs).
 

— Rosa Luxemburg Foundation

Rosa Luxemburg Foundation (RLF) “Studienwerk” awards scholarships to foreign (and German) graduate and postgraduate students to study in Germany.

The RLF is a political educational organization and is affiliated with DIE LINKE (The Left Party). The main goal of the RLF is a contribution to democratization, social justice and solidarity.
 

— Scholarship Programme of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES)

FES addresses inequality in opportunities and supports students who actively work for freedom, justice and are committed to democracy, or have decided to do so in future.
 

— Hans Böckler Foundation

Hans Böckler Foundation supports research in labor-linked areas and helps students on behalf of Confederation of German Trade Unions (DJB). 
 

— Heinrich Böll Foundation

Heinrich Böll Foundation annually grants scholarships to approximately 1,000 undergraduates, graduates, and doctoral students of all subjects and nationalities and who pursue their degrees at universities, research universities, universities of applied sciences (‘Fachhochschulen’), or universities of arts (‘Kunsthochschulen’).

—Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM Walter Hallstein Programme

As part of the scholarship, students in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus could go practice in social and legal structures and the management bodies of the federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg and in the states of the European Union. Preference is given to students of political science, economics, law, and young professionals in the field of personnel management.

—BAYHOST Scholarships

The Bavarian Ministry for Science, Research and Art annually funds scholarships for graduates from CEE (Central, Eastern and Southeastern European) countries.

—University of Bremen

Department of Social Sciences of the University of Bremen invites Master's degree students with excellent marks in the field of political science, sociology, psychology, law, economics and mass communication study in their doctoral programs.

—HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management

HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management offers full-time Master’s degree programmes.

Study in Hong Kong

The University of Lingnan offers scholarships for students in the following areas: Social Sciences, culturology, economics, psychology, business administration, history, philosophy, translation, Chinese Studies and others.

Study in the Netherlands

— Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education (NUFFIC)

NUFFIC manages several scholarship programs representing several providers, e.g. Dutch government, the European Union, private scholarship providers. The funding is available for studies during a short period abroad or for studying at full-time degree programs.

— University of Twente (UT)

University of Twente scholarships support UT graduate candidates of excellence. These scholarships vary from government grants to funding by organizations or private persons. In addition, faculties and the University of Twente Scholarship Foundation offer a limited number of additional scholarships to outstanding students.

— The University of Utrecht

The University of Utrecht offers scholarships for the best Master’s Degree students of universities from all over the world.

— Orange Tulip Scholarship

Orange Tulip Scholarship program offers scholarships for talented students from Russia. The scholarships are available for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes.

— University of Maastricht High Potential Scholarships

Maastricht University High Potential scholarships are made available by the Maastricht University Scholarship Fund in order to encourage talented students from outside the EU/EEA to follow a Master’s programme at Maastricht University.

— Radboud Scholarship Programme

The Radboud Scholarship Programme offers a select number of talented prospective non-EEA students the opportunity to receive a scholarship to pursue a complete English-taught Master's degree programme at Radboud University.

— Amsterdam Excellence Scholarships (AES)

The Amsterdam Excellence Scholarships (AES) awards scholarships to exceptionally talented students from outside Europe to pursue eligible Master’s Programmes offered at the University of Amsterdam.

— Holland Scholarship

Holland Scholarship is meant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to do their Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the Netherlands.

Study in Norway

— Norwegian-Russian Scholarship Programme 

Each year, there are 30 scholarships available for Russian students interested in studying in Norway for a semester or two.

— Nanyang Technological University

Nanyang Technological University, the main technological educational institution in Singapore, invites students from all over the world to study on the technological and economic fields. 

Study in Sweden

— Sverker Aström Foundation

The Foundation supports Swedish-Russian cooperation. The fellowships are granted to individuals of 20 to 35 years old and are targeted at acquainting the student with practice in Sweden in fields such as Political Science, Law, Economics, Management etc.. The fields may also include Art, Music, Dance and Theatre.

Scholarships are available for international students who are applying for a Master's programme.

— Visby Programme

The programme provides PhD students and postdoctoral researchers with an opportunity to conduct research at Swedish universities within all fields of study.

— Lund University Global Scholarship

The Lund University Global Scholarship programme is a selective, merit-based scholarship programme that recognizes top academic students from outside the European Union/European Economic Area (and Switzerland) who wish to apply for a Bachelor’s or Master’s Programme offered at Lund University.

— University of Lausanne Scholarship (Graduate/Master’s Programmes)

To facilitate access to Master’s degrees by students with qualifications from foreign universities, the University of Lausanne makes available around ten Master’s grants which are awarded on a competitive basis.

The Swiss government, through the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS), awards various postgraduate scholarships to foreign scholars and researchers.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations offer Chevening scholarships for master students. The programme provides full or part funding for full-time courses at postgraduate level, normally a one-year Master’s degree in any subject and at any UK University.

Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Trust and University of Oxford are inviting applications for scholarships scheme and leadership programme.
