Course Syllabus

Abstract

Lecture series ‘Logistics und supply chain management’ cover key topics of logistics and basics of supply chain management. The aim of the course is to familiarize the participating students with the advanced concepts and tools of modern logistics, consider their practical application in the context of demand-driven economic environment. The course is based on interactive teaching style with intensive student participation. It combines lectures and group-work components, class discussions, presentations, work-shops, homework and case-studies.

  • 1. Get acquainted to the basic approaches of supply chain management
  • 2. Familiarize with the core logistics models and methods in order to organize intermediaries, transport and warehouse collaboration within the logistics system
  • 3. Get used to applied case studies in the field of supply chain management
  • 4. Manage self-study investigation on the given topic
  • 5. Understand the role of logistics in the enterprise management system

  • To explain the definition, purpose and boundaries of responsibility of logistics in the enterprise
  • To explain the main factors that have influenced and are influencing the development of logistics in the world and in Russia
  • To explain the role of logistics in business and its relationship to other functions
  • To be able to conduct an object decomposition of a logistics system, draw a diagram of a logistics network and system with different flows
  • To be able to conduct a process decomposition of the logistics system, correctly identify logistics operations and functions
  • To analyze the impact of quantitative (TCO) and qualitative factors on the 'make or buy' decision process in logistics
  • To list the main objectives of warehouse and transportation management, linking them with the overall goals and objectives of logistics management at the enterprise
  • To describe the role of functional areas of logistics in a company and explain their main tasks and specifics
  • To explain the importance of transparency of information and cooperation for the success of the entire supply chain
  • To recognize the bullwhip effect, explain its mechanism and ways of neutralizing
  • To familiarize with the demand-driven frameworks and tools
  • To use strong analytical skills and apply them while using quantitative tools
  • To demonstrate deep knowledge and critical understanding of theories, principles, concepts and methodologies of logistics and supply chain management
  • To understand the challenges of uncertain economic environment in order to discuss ongoing research while using various concepts from the materials offered in the course
