  • "The School “Management, preservation and representation of the industrial and mobility heritage: the experience of Paris” that was held in Paris has just finished, and I wanted to share my impressions about it. First of all, the school program was sensibly composed. In a short period of time participants could observe certain areas in Paris, prepare group projects, and discuss some key articles. Moreover, each day was dedicated to particular research issue or research field, whether it was technologies of Middle Ages or Impressionist movement in 19th century.
Secondly, this school was an essential benefit for my personal research in university. As I work on green urban spaces of St. Petersburg, that was very useful for me to get acquainted with industrial heritage topics because it is tightly connected with urban space too. What is more, get the opportunity to work in comparative perspective between Paris and St. Petersburg ways of managing the urban space and heritage sides is considerable goal for me.
I am very grateful to organizers, Margarita Dadykina and Alexei Kraikovski, for being part of this school"

  • In June I had a chance to participate in the 1st Spring School of the Laboratory for the Technological and Environmental History of HSE Saint-Petersburg that took place in the astonishing city of Paris.
During the Spring School we studied Parisian experience related to the work with industrial and technical heritage objects. We had a chance to meet with experts and professors from Université Paris 7 Diderot with whom we had fruitful discussions on technological heritage. Numerous visits to museums, libraries and archives with our professors broadened my horizons in the field of Industrial Heritage. We had exursions in Musée d'Orsay, Musée des arts et métiers, L'Atelier des Lumières, Museum of mineralogy. At the end of the day we usually provided the results of our group works and projects.
Educational programmes, seminars with interesting discussions, as well as sightseeing tours around the city of Paris organized by our professors, Margarita Dadykina and Alexei Kraikovski, provided us with unforgettable experience.
In conclusion, I should say that participation in the Spring School programme provided me with an opportunity to receive a wealth of new knowledge on heritage management and policy that could make a contribution to my academic research in the field of Cultural Heritage.

  • Participation in Summer school «Management, preservation and representation of the industrial and mobility heritage: the experience of Paris» helped me to gain new knowledge in methodology of technological history and history of industrial heritage, and I had the opportunity to discuss my research project with the senior scholars. The Summer School program was very diverse. Every day we had interesting lectures, discussions and excursions. I was especially impressed with the observation of the industrial heritage of University Paris Diderot and observation of the industrial heritage of the Ecole d’architecture. This is a good case of adapting an obsolete technical building to modern needs. Also was interesting a visit to the Musee d’Orsay, where we worked in groups to understand how Modern technologies are depicted on the paintings. The results of discussions and lectures I can apply in a research project on the heritage in which I participate, in particular, the Summer School allowed me to rethink the concept of «center - periphery». I received good feedback from colleagues from France and other participants of the Summer School.
