General information: Russian for Everyday Communication 

The general Russian language program at HSE is best for those who need acquire practical communication skills in the Russian-speaking environment. This course will definitely prove interesting and useful as it combines learning the language and the Russian culture. Study mode is in mini-groups so that each student can best develop the language skills.

 

Level scale

We use the European Framework of Reference for language learning. General Russian can be studied at different levels (from 0-A1 to C2). The thematic, grammatical and lexical content of the program will depend on your starting level and learning objectives - which result you want to obtain.
The Russian Language Course for beginner students is aimed at students with no previous knowledge of Russian. One of its objectives is developing skills for successful communication at beginner level.
Those students whose level of Russian is A2 might be interested in enrolling in the A2 Russian Language course. This course further develops language skills necessary for communication at elementary level.
Finally, the B1 Russian Language Course will be suitable for those students whose goal is to acquire language skills for communication at intermediate level as well as to take The First Certification Level (TORFL-I / B1) exam.

 

Courses objectives are:

  • to develop pronunciation skills
  • to able to speak about yourself, your interests, family, work, studies, free time, health, hometown etc., as well as to ask questions and hold a conversation;
  • to communicate effectively in different every-day situations; 
  • to understand the gist of a conversation or text in Russian as well as some details and the writer's conclusion;
  • to be able to understand texts on various topics and speak about them;
  • to be able to express individual opinions on a certain topic;
  • to be able to write texts of different formats about a specific topic. 

  

Each course lasts 56 academic hours and equals 3 ETC:

Russian as a Foreign Language (0-A1 level)

Russian as a Foreign Language (A1.1 level)

Russian as a Foreign Language (A1.2 level)

Russian as a Foreign Language (A2.2 level)

Russian as a Foreign Language (B1.1 level)

Russian as a Foreign Language (B1.2 level)

Russian as a Foreign Language (B1 certificate upon successful completion of B1.1 and B1.2 levels)

Each course (level) equals 3 ETC.There is a 10% student discount.
