The Department of Public Administration was founded in 2003 as a department in the Faculty of Management. The role of the Department is to train specialists in the field of state and municipal administration, in areas where the Russian governmental sector is experiencing a serious need.
The Department’s main mission is to conduct research focused on the real sector of city and regional economics, as well as to carry out development activities.
The Department conducts research focused on city development, creating a pleasant city environment, and carrying out effective administrative practices and investment activity.
Cooperation with the Leontief Centre resulted in the creation of the interdepartmental HSE’s Joint Department with the International Centre for Social and Economic Research (Leontief Centre) in 2012. An agreement was subsequently signed in 2014 to create the Joint Department with the Civil Service of the Administration of the Governor of St. Petersburg, the goal of which is to improve the qualifications of staff within St. Petersburg’s state civil service.
The Department aims to develop international connections and follows a policy based on international partnership with organizations, universities and research centres around the world, including the Hamburg School of Management, the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, Masaryk University in Brno (Faculty of Management), and the University of Pécs.
