The Fool, Russian Movie Club Meeting
On February 15th, Russian movie club organizes a discussion of the movie The Fool (Durak), a 2014 Russian drama film.
The Fool screenplay is written and directed by Yuri Bykov. This movie tells about Dima Nikitin, an ordinary honest plumber, who suddenly faces the corrupt system of local politics to save the lives of 800 inhabitants of an old dormitory, which is about to collapse.
Excerpts from an interview with Yuri Bykov to the newspaper Izvestia:
'It is more likely that the mass audience will perceive The Fool as a picture relevant preliminary Russia. In my interviews to Western journalists, I emphasize its importance and relevance to anywhere in the world, where there are rich and poor, but I’m not sure that my words will greatly affect the perception of the film there. I don’t like what is happening in our country, and I try to talk honestly about that in my films. At the same time, I do not want people in the West to think that I came here to complain about my heavy burden. I don’t want to leave Russia. I want to live here, I love my country. Nobody can choose their homeland — a motherland is a motherland'.
Come on February 15th, at 18:30, to watch and discuss the movie.
The Fool subtitles and following discussion are to be in English.
