The minhwa genre serves as a vibrant expression of the qualities inherent in Korean aesthetics and is increasingly recognized as a significant aspect of Korea's soft power.
Students of Asian and African Studies were introduced to the origins, artistic features, and diverse themes of folk paintings, along with their symbolic meanings. The curriculum included discussions on the practical applications of minhwa in Korean homes, its connection to New Year paintings, and its relationship with court painting from the Joseon era.
Additionally, students learned to interpret the symbolism in these paintings by analyzing works created by participants in the Minhwa Art Club.
