Students from the Minhwa art club hosted an exhibition

On June 14, 2024, students from the Institute of Asian and African Studies showcased their works at an exhibition featuring Korean folk paintings known as minhwa. The exhibition took place on the 6th floor at 123 Griboyedov Canal Embankment.

Students from the Minhwa art club hosted an exhibition

Throughout the academic year, students and alumni of the Institute participated in master classes on traditional Korean minhwa painting, led by Nelly Georgieva-Russ, Associate Professor in the Department of Korean Studies. During these master classes, students gained hands-on experience in a painting style that reflects the aesthetics, spirit, and customs of the Korean people.

For the exhibition, a selection of paintings covering various subjects was curated to showcase the diversity of minhwa genres. Among these are:

  • Chaekkori 책거리 (images of books and stationary)
  • Munjado 문자도 (images representing the eight Confucian virtues)
  • Hwajodo 화조도 (images of flowers and birds)
  • Yongmodo 영모도 (images of animals)
  • Hojakdo 호작도 (images of a tiger and a magpie under a pine tree)

The Minhwa Art Club is proud to host this exhibition for a second consecutive year and invites everyone interested in experiencing Korean art to attend.
