Science

The professors of the Join Department perform scientific and scientific-practical activities in the field of theoretical studies of the language, as well as in the field of practical application of linguistic knowledge. The priority lines of research are:

●     studying and documenting the languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation (Altai, Uralic, Paleo-Asiatic languages);

●     theoretical and typological study of the languages of Europe, Asia, Africa and South America;

●     comparative historical Indo-European linguistics;

●     anthropological linguistics and sociolinguistics.

Within scientific and applied activities, the staff of the department actively contribute to an increase in the number of scientific student expeditions, in particular, bringing in students to dialectological expeditions to study Russian language, as well as organizing bicommunal conferences between HSE University - St. Petersburg and the ILS RAS.
