December academic events at the Department of International Relations and Political Processes in Asia and Africa

We are glad to share the most interesting events in December at our Department.

December academic events at the Department of International Relations and Political Processes in Asia and Africa

On December 3, a scientific seminar was held, organized by the Department and the Student Scientific Society of the Institute of Asian and African Studies in conjunction with the Student Scientific Society of the Department of Political Science on the topic “Elections results in Japan: a shift to the right or a temporary success for the conservatives?” At the meeting, participants discussed a wide range of issues related to the current state of affairs in Japanese domestic politics. The meeting was moderated by Maria Chizhevskaya, senior lecturer at the department. More details about the discussion can be found on the Department's Telegram channel.

On December 10, Head of Department Svetlana Krivokhizh and Associate Professor Elena Soboleva took part in the conference “Prospects for Russian-Chinese Cooperation in the Context of the 4th Plenum of the 20th CPC Central Committee,” which was held at the HSE University in St. Petersburg. This event was one of the first expert sessions in Russia dedicated to the PRC's development strategy until 2030. Researchers from the HSE University in St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance, St. Petersburg State University, and other leading universities highlighted the strengths of the five-year plan and opportunities for strengthening scientific and educational ties. According to Svetlana Krivokhizh, China has extensive experience in developing international expert centers that could serve as platforms for data exchange, bringing countries closer together on strategic issues, and uniting cultures.

On December 19, senior lecturer Maria Chizhevskaya spoke at the 18th annual conference of the Association of Japanologists at MGIMO University (Moscow). In her report, she proposed looking at Japanese policy on international conflicts from the perspective of constructivist role theory. The presentation sparked a lively discussion about the value of theoretical frameworks in the analysis of international political processes and the foreign policy of individual countries.

We congratulate the students and faculty of the department, as well as everyone interested in its activities, on the coming New Year and wish them interesting research, new projects and insights!
