Conference on online education Stepicon 2017
From the 22nd to the 23rd of September, participants of our Research Group Alexander Sirotkin and Alina Bakhitova and 3rd-year students of BA "Sociology and Social Informatics" Anna Bataeva and Olga Silyutina took part in the educational conference Stepicon 2017, which was held at the main office of Stepik.
The aim of the Stepicon 2017 conference was to discuss online education strategies, developing a platform and sharing experiences in creating and conducting online courses. In addition to standard activities, there were round-tables, within which there was a discussion about issues related to the peculiarities of using online courses by teachers and students on the Stepik platform. The head of our Research Group, Alexander Sirotkin, took an active part in discussing the experience of creating online courses, describing the example of integrating the online course into the Data Science minor.
On the second day of the conference, a round-table was organized with student users of the Stepik platform "The role of online education in Lifelong learning". The 3rd-year students took part in the discussion. Olga Silyutina shares her impressions of the event:
The Stepicon'17 conference was very interesting and in its own way useful for each of its participants. Some speakers talked about the innovations that appeared on the platform Stepik, others - showed the results of its use in the projects of the Sberbank and Total Dictation. The special part was round-tables with the creators of the courses and their students. After watching the discussion of teachers, which expanded the understanding of the process of creating online courses, it was especially amazing to participate in the round-table of students, where we and Anna managed to talk with other participants on the actual topic of continuing education.
