HSE Сareer Week’19: “What should we teach – What should we learn?”

This year our Career Week intensively lasted for six days, 18 to 23 November, and our HSE Career development center took care of events’ organizational part.  Career week is a great opportunity for students to become acquainted with the modern labor market, and for employers – to present their opportunities and offers to future applicants. This year, all the HSE sites were occupied in order to attract our students from all educational programs.

HSE Сareer Week’19: “What should we teach – What should we learn?”

During the Week, leading Russian and foreign companies introduced career events of various content and format. For example, it all began with a Panel discussion "Current trends on labor market", where speakers highlighted the differences in employment opportunities for the corporate sector and startups. This session revealed all the secrets of market development and set the tone for the forthcoming days of the Career Week. Igor Ivchenko, founder of the project "Money online", Alexander Treskov, Quantitative analyst for Quant-Port, Vera Heifets, editor-in-chief for the newspaper “Delovoy Peterburg”, Vera Kotsur, head of the geomarketing department, Lenta, and many others shared their experience in terms of facilitating professionalization in business.

Companies also took the opportunity to conduct interviews and invite our students to be a part of their teams under the terms of internship and even employment: Unilever organized a case-championship with the main prize - a fast track for internship, PWC, VEEAM, KPMG, Uniqlo, Danone, Selectel, VTB and Gazprom Neft conducted selections for internships on conditions of one day offer.

Career Week will be also remembered for its’ warm receptions of our HSE graduates. Within a friendly evening setting, our speakers not only commented on important issues of future career, but also suggested that students should not miss their everyday chances in HSE and beyond. SCEM was represented by five graduates: Vadim Rafalsky, Maria Kuznetsova, Alexander Davydov, Polina Maksimova and Sofia Mamina.

However, the largest event was the poster session, which broke all anticipated records: 34 companies placed colorful stands in the halls of our building on Kantemirovskaya, and more than 1500 people visited this fair.

In parallel, we hosted 12 other events in different fields: for example, the meeting "Vkontakte Technologies", where Alexey Akulovich, a key program-developer of Vkontakte, elaborated on how the most popular social network in Russia works.

On Friday, November 22, at minimum two memorable events took place: the grand opening of a new mentoring program for outstanding HSE students, as well as the Public Talk "Digital transformation in the labor market: what to teach – what to learn". The last discussion was attended by intriguing speakers, such as Oleg Smirnov, member of the Board of PJSC "VTB", Dmitry Mramorov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC " PF "SKB-Kontur", Igor Ivchenko, founder of the project "Money online", CEO GamesUp42, managing partner ITGV. Our Director Sergey Kadochnikov moderated the session.
