Course Syllabus

Abstract

The discipline is aimed at the acquisition of knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of quantum systems with an infinitely large number of degrees of freedom (fields). The main objective of the course is to form the necessary theoretical foundation for studying and working in the field of high-energy physics, particle physics and condensed matter physics. To master the discipline students must know mechanics, oscillations and waves, quantum physics, nuclear physics, symmetry theory, mathematical analysis, linear algebra, matrix theory.

Learning Objectives

• Acquisition of knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of quantum systems with an infinitely large number of degrees of freedom (fields).

Expected Learning Outcomes

• Knows how to obtain equations of motion from the Lagrangian, check gauge invariance, and find classical solutions.
• Able to work with secondarily quantized fields in interaction representation. Able to work with spinors.
• Able to calculate the elements of the scattering matrix in the tree approximation.

• Basic concepts of quantum field theory
• Canonical quantization of free fields
• Scattering matrix

Assessment Elements

• Exam
  The exam is held in writing. The exam ticket contains three questions from different sections of the course. 2.5 hours are allotted for the preparation of the answer.
• Classroom work
  In practical classes students must demonstrate the acquired knowledge, the ability to use special terminology, as well as skills in working with various types of literature and sources.

• 2025/2026 2nd module
  0.5 * Classroom work + 0.5 * Exam
