Correlation between localization of power and photo (late empire – early soviet periods) in Central Asia, 1871-1940.

On 16th of April at the seminar of scientific-study group “Applied GIS in Humanities” its members: Kuchinskiy Aleksandr, Maria Zimina and Aleksandr Korobeinikov presented a report called “Correlation between localization of power and photo (late empire – early soviet periods) in Central Asia, 1871-1940.”

The report was about applying photo to the context of Central Asia. As authors put it, photos can be used as historical sources because its relation to local context. Moreover, the attention was paid to geographical maps, which can emphasize the main tendencies of the region. Using the methodology of GIS it became possible to combine maps and photo and it allows us to put local features into wide historical perspective. This approach helped to trace temporal and space characteristic, which led to a wider research field.
