City

Saint Petersburg, the second largest city in Russia with a population over 5 million people, was founded in 1703. Inspired by Venice and Amsterdam, tsar Peter the Great placed the new Russian capital at the beautiful delta of the Neva river, and gave a start to the erection of hundreds of its magnificent palaces that still remind of its imperial grandeur. After yielding the status of capital back to Moscow in 1918, St. Petersburg retained the status of  Russia’s  “cultural capital” famous for its museums, theaters and galleries that attract millions of tourists from all over the world. St. Petersburg is also a major scientific and business  center with numerous universities, research centers and IT companies providing broad educational and career opportunities to talented students, young scientists and developers.
