SocUp. Youth Participatory Action Research and Universities: Citizenship in the Making

Мероприятие завершено

On 29 of April at 15.20 seminar «Youth Participatory Action Research and Universities: Citizenship in the Making» will be held in the frame of scientific seminar SocUp, organized by Center for Youth Studies NRU HSE – Saint-Petersburg. Everyone is welcome to join this seminar.

Invited speakers: Kevin Burke and Ruth Harman, The University of Georgia

The presentation explores how two youth literacy researchers have conceptualized and implemented Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) in the southeast of the United States. YPAR, widely defined, is an approach where minoritized youth are positioned full center as the primary researchers in community problem solving.

The presenters first discuss the ongoing YPAR programs that involve middle and high school youth, graduate students, and local community agencies. Grounded in a curriculum of multi-literacies, the presenters also discuss:

  • theories around youth empowerment and community-based, multimodal arts-based research
  • methods for analyzing the processes and products of multimodal youth engagement and
  • guidelines for maintaining often fragile partnerships beyond the university walls.

The seminar venue:

Saint Petersburg, Griboedov Canal Embankment, 123, 3d floor, room 303, National Research University «Higher School of Economics» in Saint Petersburg.

Working language: English
