Saint-Petersburg International Cultural Forum 2019: How It Was

The VIII International Cultural Forum was held in St. Petersburg from 14th to 16th of November. This annual event gathers thousands of cultural experts from all over the world at almost 200 venues around the city: theater, opera and ballet stars, outstanding directors and musicians, public figures, representatives of government and business, and just interested visitors. The main mission of the forum is to offer practical tools for the development of cultural society and overcoming the barriers that divide the modern world.

The first International Cultural Forum was held in 2012. Despite the relatively small number of participants (about 70 people, 30 of whom are foreigners, and 300 visitors), even then the organizers set a global goal: "To convey to the consciousness of people that culture can save the world." And thanks to hard work and constant development, already in 2019 the number of participants reached 40000 from 96 countries including Russia, distributed in 17 sections, each of which represents a different direction of culture. If you want to be a part of the forum, next year you can try yourself as a volunteer. It is an exciting and unforgettable experience and opportunity to communicate with famous and talented people from different countries and spheres. You are able to accompany foreign delegations or work locally and become one of big event-managing team. In any case, you have the opportunity to get to events closed to most guests, see exciting performances and listen to interesting lectures, develop your communication skills and, most importantly, become a part of something amazing and global.

Officially, the dates of this year's forum were November 14-16, but the events under the program had been held since November 13. All of them were divided into professional and social streams. Unfortunately, it is impossible to get to the events of the first without a special invitation, but there were so many of them in the second that it would take several hours to list them all.

The main theme of the International Cultural Forum 2019 is "Cultural codes in the context of globalization". The main venues are the main headquarters of the Hermitage, the Russian ethnographic museum, the Central exhibition hall "Manege", but also many others, because this year the forum is divided into 17 sections and tracks: from cinema to jazz, from festivals to education. The People's Republic of China received the status of a guest country this year, so guests had an opportunity to visit concerts and performances, embodied by Chinese artists and reflecting the amazing culture of the East. Besides, a lot of events were connected with Turkish and Slavic art that were organized as a part of a “Special program”.

The forum became a platform on which many important international agreements in the sphere of culture were signed, and there have been such significant and interesting events as the presentation of the Salzburg festival 2020 program, the announcement of the finalists of the contest "Young festivals in Russia and Europe", closing the all-russian theatrical marathon, the opening of the Deineka’s and Samokhvalov’s exhibition, discussion of Russia's role in the global film market, the choice of philanthropists of the year and much more.

Next year, the forum will be held from 12th to 14th November. Do not miss the opportunity to become a part of it!
