If you love vibrant, humane, and socially conscious cinema, be sure to attend the Brazilian Film Festival, which will be held in Moscow for the 16th time.

Audiences can expect an unforgettable experience and a deep dive into Brazilian culture. The festival program includes a short selection of new films and documentaries, as well as post-screening discussions with invited experts to help you unpack the films’ themes and meanings. Many of the movies have been featured in major international festivals.
What is this festival?
The Brazilian Film Festival in Russia (Festival de Cinema Brasileiro na Rússia), founded in 2008, presents the best of contemporary Brazilian cinema to Russian audiences. It is organized by Linhas Produções Culturais in partnership with the Brazilian Embassy in Moscow and with the support of ApexBrasil (the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency).
Over the years, the festival has introduced more than 50,000 viewers to Brazilian films of various genres and formats and has become one of the most memorable Brazilian cultural events abroad. The festival's curator and producer is Fernanda Bullões, director of Linhas.
In 2025 the festival will be held in four Russian cities: Nizhny Novgorod (November 13–16), Kaliningrad (November 20–23), St. Petersburg (November 27–30), and will conclude in Moscow (December 2–7). The program includes six carefully selected films: dramas, biographies, and documentaries.
Festival organizers will present not only the films but also post-screening discussions with invited film experts.
Language and accessibility: Like previous years, movies will be shown in their original language (Portuguese) with Russian subtitles.
Where will the festival be held in Moscow?
All Moscow screenings will be held at the KARO 11 Oktyabr Cinema at 24 Novy Arbat Street. This renowned Moscow cinema boasts one of the city's largest premiere screening rooms (1,518 seats).

Festival Program
Below are the films confirmed for this year's Russian tour:
- «I'm Still Here» (2024, directed by Walter Salles). This is an adaptation of Marcelo Rubens Paiva's autobiographical book about his mother. The story of a woman forced to completely change her life after her husband is sent into exile during a dictatorship. The film won the 2025 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. «I'm Still Here» was a huge hit last year and received widespread press coverage.
- «Milton Bituca Nascimento» (2025, dir. Flavia Moraes). A touching documentary portrait of Milton Nascimento, also known as "Bituca," one of Brazil's most beloved musicians. He is also known as "the voice of Brazil." The film depicts the singer's final tour after he announced his retirement.
- «Portrait of the Unknown East» (2024, directed by Marcelo Gomes). A film about the history of Lebanese immigration to the Amazon, the film subtly explores themes of identity, family memory, and the clash of cultures.
- «Pasárgada» (2024, directed by Dira Pais). The directorial debut of the renowned Brazilian actress tells the story of a biologist who retreats to the rainforest and devotes herself to bird research, while simultaneously rethinking her life and her vocation.
- «Mangueira em 2 Tempos» (2024, directed by Ana Maria Magalhães). The story of the students of one of Rio de Janeiro's most renowned samba schools, "Mangueira," and how their lives unfold 30 years later.
- «Querido Mundo» (2025, dir. Miguel Falabella). A bridge collapses during a storm, leading to the meeting of Elsa and Oswald. Rio de Janeiro, New Year's Eve. The characters meet and rediscover the meaning of life. A touching story about family and second chances.
