Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course purpose to enable students to carry out their individual projects as well as contribute to collective research. The course is based on particular research cases with possible contribution both for academic and applied studies. The module is designed to provide students not only with knowledge and practical skills, but also positive values and competencies to solve non-trivial problems and creative tasks in the frame of business studies.

  • The goal of the course is to assist students in preparing their research project that results in the term paper, according to the high standards of academic research or industry standards with regard to the selected style of the term paper.
Expected Learning Outcomes

Expected Learning Outcomes

  • Students should be able to understand the notion of research ethics and possible consequences of fraud and plagiarism
  • Students should be able to pose a research question that is based on the gap(s) identified in the literature and supported by the need from management/industry.
  • Students should be able to show, in a systematic way, what is already known about the research topic as a whole, and to outline the key ideas and theories that help to understand this.
  • Students should be able to develop a research methodology, regardless methods used, that is relevant to the research question and helps to answer it, and be able to implement this research methodology.
  • Students should be able to present and describe the results of the carried-out study in a systematic and detailed way.
  • Students should be able to discuss findings by providing background information regarding literature and the research question, comparing the results with previous findings, offering an explanation for the findings, noting implications of the finding, and giving suggestions for future work.
  • Students should be able to summarize and bring together the main areas covered in the research implemented, and provide final comments or judgements on the whole research/research process.
  • Students should be able to select a promising research topic within managerial domain.

Assessment Elements

  • non-blocking Research idea presentation
    This assignment aims to encourage the students to think on their research and deliberate on the research question and its justification, research background and research motivation that are the essential parts of the thesis introduction.
  • non-blocking Methodology plan presentation
    The assignment is a presentation of the methodology plan.
  • non-blocking Extended research proposal
    This assignment aims to encourage students to think about their research, deliberate on the research question, and justify it, and demonstrate the appropriate way to answer the posed research questions using chosen methodology.
  • non-blocking Final presentation
    The task is to give a 10-minute presentation on the research conducted.
  • non-blocking 3rd module in-class activities
    In class activities, the course instructor aims to equip students with research-related skills in specific areas of study.
  • non-blocking Research process
    The research process is an assignment designed to encourage students to plan their research and follow through with their plans.
  • non-blocking Test
    A final test based on all the topics covered in the course.
