The Talent Factory: a new CYS project about extracurricular activities in the St. Petersburg HSE

In February, a new CYS project was launched on the study of diverse extracurricular activities on the St. Petersburg campus, their potential and importance for students. This is the first time such a study has been conducted at the Higher School of Economics.

The Center for Youth Studies has launched the project “Talent Factory: motivations and ideas about the success of students participating in extracurricular projects of the Higher School of Economics – St. Petersburg.” Many Russian and foreign studies emphasize the importance of extracurricular activities for the development of soft/hard skills, adaptation to a new environment and general well-being. With all the variety of student clubs – creative, intellectual, athletic, and volunteer – the HSE has not yet conducted a large-scale study of extracurricular activities. Meanwhile, our students balance study, work, and extracurricular activities and achieve results in a wide variety of fields.

Our goal is to study students' ideas about career and life success, motivation to participate in extracurricular activities, and the potential of extracurricular associations for students' self-realization.

Meanwhile, the field stage of the study is coming to an end. It can already be said that it will not only show significant practical results, but will also lay the groundwork for further studies of student life.
