The Satellite Labs for Social Entrepreneurship Consortium has expanded its international network to nine universities in seven countries
During HSE's International Partnership Week in St. Petersburg, an updated manifesto for the Consortium of Satellite Labs for Social Entrepreneurship was signed. UPAEP—the Popular Autonomous University of Puebla (Mexico) and the University of Piura, Lima Campus (Peru) — officially joined the international research network. This brings the consortium's membership to nine universities from seven countries: Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, and Peru.
The consortium continues to strengthen international academic collaboration in the areas of social innovation, sustainable development, the third mission of universities, and measurable social impact. The signing of the updated manifesto marked an important stage in the network's institutional development and a shift from partnerships to the systematic implementation of joint research, educational, and practice-oriented initiatives.
The addition of new universities expanded the geographic scope of collaboration and strengthened the network's Latin American focus. Today, the consortium is creating an international platform for comparative research, academic mobility, case study development, joint publications, and projects aimed at developing social entrepreneurship and sustainable solutions for society.
The consortium was created on the basis of the Satellite Lab for Social Entrepreneurship between HSE University in St. Petersburg and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, which was launched in 2023. Since 2025, the initiative has been developing as a formalized international network of universities united by a common research agenda and a desire to connect academic knowledge with solutions to real-world societal challenges.
Magdalena Gaete, Head of the Laboratory for Reputation Management in Education at HSE St. Petersburg, noted:"It is particularly important for us to see how this initiative, which began several years ago as a collaboration between individual researchers and universities, is gradually developing into a sustainable international academic community. During this time, joint research projects have been implemented, international events have been held, publications, analytical materials, and educational initiatives have been prepared. Today, the consortium continues to develop as a space for open international dialogue and the joint search for solutions in the areas of social entrepreneurship, sustainable development, and the social mission of universities."
